Courtship is a relationship between a Christian man and woman during which they seek to determine if it is God’s will for them to marry each other. The main difference between dating and courtship involves the goals to be reached by spending time with each other. Courtship strives to answer the following question: how can I honour God and discern His direction regarding my life partner?
The journey of christian courtship is one which avoids sexual temptation. As young Christians, we need to daily remind ourselves that our bodies were bought with an infinite price, for so it says in 1 Corinthians 6: 18-20; “Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual morality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God and you are not your own? For you were brought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (NKJV.
Prayer and Fasting
Praying and fasting in courtship can help you to discover God’s plan for your future marriage. I believe that couples have more victory over sin, addiction and bad habits if they take the time to quieten their flesh through fasting and praying. When we do this we are simply asking God, in all humility, to have His Way in our future marriage. In 1 Corinthians 5:7 it says to not deprive one another except with consent for a time that you may give yourselves to fasting and praying; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control .(NKJV) So when you desire to be in a God-pleasing courtship with someone, it would be wise to get in the habit of fasting and praying.
Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.

Furthermore, we should not forget to pray without ceasing whiles fasting, because the unusual must be done in order for God to have His way in our prayer life. You can significantly build up your spiritual life by simply waking up an hour earlier to have that extra prayer, reading and meditation time. From experience, I can tell you that a joint fast and/or prayer can strengthen the bond between you and your partner. It also makes it a bit easier to endure the abstinence part, as you both are preparing for the same goal in marriage. The intention is that you simply want the relationship to give glory to God! But you must not forget to actually spend quality time with each other, since you need to discover your common interests in life such as your dreams, aspirations and the calling or assignment of God in your lives. Whilst you are getting to know each other, God should remain the First and Greatest Love in our life!
To my Beautiful Purpose wives, fasting and prayer should be a necessity in our lives. Maybe you are praying and fasting for a Godly Man to find you! Yes to find you! Fot it says in Proverbs 18: 22 that He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favour from the Lord! It that not a powerful scripture by the Lord? What you should do to claim this promise, is to keep up the good work and all things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33).
To my Beautiful Purpose wives who are already in a courtship leading to marriage; never forget the power of patience and humility in the Lord. Whilst you prepare for what God has put together, keep pressing forward and pray for God’s guidance. A relationship centered around God is destined for greatness!
