Why You Owe It to God to Be Faithful to Yourself

Faithfulness is one of those things you cannot buy. It is priceless and something you cannot expect from just anyone. Someone who does not know nor love you will find it difficult to be(come) faithful to you. In the same way, if you don’t have a personal relationship with God, you will find it difficult to obey Him and to be(come) loyal to Him.

The very first and best thing you can do is to become faithful to yourself. However, you can only do this when you take the time to know yourself. Justine, what do you mean by becoming faithful to yourself? The answer is simple; stay true to yourself & value and love yourself. You are being faithful to yourself when you focus on your God-given purpose. There is nothing wrong with loving yourself enough to go after the things you feel are yours.

Please note that I’m not saying that you should become selfish. Not at all. But if you truly want to please God, it will be impossible to simultaneously please everyone else. Sometimes you will have to say no to people in order to please God and to protect yourself. In pleasing God you are also showing faithfulness to yourself, because everything you do for God is for your own good according to Jeremiah 29:11, for it says that the thoughts He has for us are thoughts of peace and not evil, to give us a future and hope (NKJV). Isn’t that great to know?!

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.

1 Corinthians 6:19

Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. One of the ways to become faithful to yourself, is to not to defile your temple with things of the world. Another way to  be faithful to yourself is to sacrifice some things in order to be able to fully walk in your God-given purpose. That is exactly what Joseph did. He chose not to sleep with Potiphar’s wife and fled instead. I can really imagine how proud God was of Joseph.. And look how far God brought him! So from this situation we can learn that by turning down particular opportunities that you know will lead to nothing but a toxic situation, you are being loyal to yourself and your purpose. Sometimes it is necessary to your self growth to reject people or things that will push you away from God.

Once you decide to become faithful to your dreams, beliefs and values, you will start to experience inner peace and happiness. When you choose purpose above pleasure, at the end of the day, you will look back and be happy about the decisions you took to become that successful Christian lady. Most of the times, dreams that become reality are a result of people that choose to be faithful to themselves. These people chose to be disciplined, stay focused and work hard on that very thing they want to achieve.

So to be faithful to yourself, does not mean that you are selfish; and by being faithful to yourself, you indirectly choose to become faithful to God. When you decide to become more faithful to yourself as a Christian, and you decide not to deviate from the right path, your faithfulness makes you trustworthy to God. Remember that!
