What it Means to be Godly and Disciplined

Let’s be honest, gorgeous.. It’s not that easy to be a godly woman. That is, in the sense of having an intimate relationship with God. The pressure of school, work, kids, business etc. could make it difficult. I understand, sometimes we don’t really have time to pray, to fast nor read the word of God. Or sometimes we say; “I will do it tommorow, im tired now“. But then tommorow comes, and we say the same thing again. But do you think that this can really be the reason why we don’t have a daily relationship with God? Do you really think that God deserves all these excuses?

I had a dream one day, in which I saw people defending, arguing and justifying themselves with reasons why they don’t have time for God. When I woke up, I heard a voice saying: “I just want some personal time”. My heart broke, I could feel so much pain and hurt that I began to weep.

One of the reasons that Jesus came to die on the cross, was to reconcile us back to God through him. Adam, the first man on earth was placed in the Garden of Eden (the presence of God). He had a direct communication with our heavenly Father, but because of sin he was banished from the Garden of Eden (Romans 5:18). God always wanted a relationship with us from the beginning. Do you really think that He loved you enough to die for you, but not enough to have a daily conversation with you?

When Jesus visited the house of Mary and Martha, Mary made a decision to sit at the feet of Jesus (build a relationship with Him). She chose not to worry about the things around her. Martha on the other hand was worried and troubled about the things around her. She was a busybody, as we would describe her behaviour today. Busy with cooking, busy with cleaning, busy doing things that she thought was more important than spending time with Jesus. At the end, Jesus said something that marveled me: “There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:42). Jesus was saying that quiet time is more important than being a busy Christian. Your quiet time with Him has more value than you being a worship leader who lacks a personal relationship with Him. Mary was more concerned about her relationship with Jesus than anything else. She made time and paid all her attention to Him. She knew the importance and was able to leave the rest. She knew the importance of the issues of eternal life.

As a godly woman, our daily walk should be different. Our walk with Christ requires daily discipline. To be honest, being a Christian and saying you don’t have time for God is almost an insult. God should be our first priority in life. The things we do daily are all temporary, but yet still we make them priority before God, how come?

The devil came to kill, steal and destroy. He loves to destroy your beautiful and loving relationship with God. So it is important to be disciplined, being in control of yourself, your thoughts, your emotions, your behaviors and your habits. All of them must be kept in check. We have a choice to make every morning when we wake up. The bible says: “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:24). Will it be God or will it be self? Being disciplined in our walk with God is being able to force yourself to do something despite of how you feel. It causes us to make right choices in our lives that leads to positive results. For if you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities (Luke 16:10 NLT).
