There are seasons in our life when we encounter fear. We can be fearful of the future or even about a certain situation we’re in right now. Even though we call ourselves Christians, many of us are afraid of what is to come. We are uncertain about our career, our (future) marriage, financial stability and so on. But at the end of the day it all comes down to ourselves.
As Christians, we need to come to a point where we learn to lean on God’s word. Granted, this is very difficult when you are going through a very dark season. There came a time in my own life where I had no clue as to what I was doing. I was unsure about my tomorrow and I was even worried about making it through the day. I would sit down and overthink situations to the finest detail, together with all the what-if’s I could think of. However, I noticed that anytime I was doing this, it meant I was doubting God. It meant I was believing in my own strength and not in His. Please remember that The Lord said that in our weakness, His power is made strong (2 Corinthians 12:9). Whenever a tornado in life is about to hit you, keep repeating his name ”Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!” Let the enemy know that you may not look like it today but tomorrow you will rise like an eagle.
“He replied, ‘You of little faith, why are you afraid?’ Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves and it was completely calm.” (Matthew 8:26 NIV)
Fear is a powerful emotion that can take you from level 100 to level 0 real quick. Fear is a blockage of destinies. It can confuse you even when there is no confusion needed. Don’t be afraid, my loved ones. Just know that God is in control of your every situation. As Deuteronomy 7:21 reads: “No, do not be afraid of those nations, for the Lord your God is among you, and He is a great and awesome God. “Isn’t He the same God that brought you out of that situation you never thought you would get out of?“
As individuals, especially Christians, we have a certain power within us that many others are not privileged to have. This power is The Holy Spirit. As Christ is in us, He has given us the power to overcome and not to fear. The combination of both the Holy Spirit and the power to overcome our inner man, is meant to be strong enough for us to withstand any fear or negativity. However, the enemy has put certain strategies in place to confuse the believer. We ought not to allow this! As a believer you may get scared about your future, but always focus on the road ahead. God has laid out a certain plan for all of us and that’s why all of us have a different purpose in life. We are not meant to be the same, God created us uniquely.
“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” (proverbs 18:10 NIV)
As a follower of Christ, your future is secured in Him. Fear should never cripple your physical actions or your willingness to strive and do better. You are an overcomer! Stop fear today by combining the Holy Spirit with the Power to overcome and let God do the rest.
