Having an Extra Oil as a Godly Woman

When you hear ‘Godly Woman’ what comes to mind? For me, it’s a daughter of God who follows and obeys Him. A woman who yearns for the things of God, who abides in Him and whose ways are righteous in the eyes of the Lord. A godly woman is someone who portrays godly attributes and is decent in her dressing, speech, and all her ways. In fact, to say someone is godly, the person must have some specific attributes about him/her for him/her.

The Characteristics of a Godly Woman
In general when a person is godly, it refers to a (wo)man, who has accepted God as her Lord and personal Savior, and lives a life which is different from the life she used to live in the past. As the Bible makes us understand in 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV):“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” This tells us that after we have accepted Christ into our lives, we can’t live our lives the way we used to. A change needs to take place in our lives, one that is noticeable for everyone around us. A change that will show Christ’s love for us wherever we go. Whatever we do, it should depict the characteristics of Christ in us, which are; love, kindness, patience, humility, slow to anger and obedience, amongst others. Also, we have to grow in our spiritual lives which means we have to pray, fast, and do more of the things God assigned us to do as His children.

There are some things that will draw people’s attention to you in order for you to get the recognition as a godly woman. There should be some changes in your way of life which should be different from your previous life before knowing God. When you accept Christ, you need to understand that people are expecting to see changes in you and you need to see some changes in yourself as well. Women are often compared to the women in the Bible and what they did. What about you? Are you as obedient as Ruth was to Naomi, or will you be able to endure hardship like Ruth did? Can you stand up for your people just like Esther did? Can you pray and hope just as Hannah did? Will you push your husband to sleep with someone just as Sarah did in order to have a child? Or, least of them all, persuade your husband to sin just as Eve did?

As a woman you have to incorporate certain things in you alongside your faith.

What it means to have Extra Oil
When it comes to being a godly woman, it entails a lot of things, but let’s talk about your extra oil as a woman. Like any other godly person, you should read the Bible and live a righteous and holy life. But what other things do you have that will marvel people to let them know that apart from God being in you, there is something extraordinary about you? Matthew 25:1-4 reads  “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet their bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but didn’t take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in the jars along with their lamps.” This scripture has a different meaning, but I will relate it to carrying extra oil as a godly woman. Many women think that being godly is all about being active in ministry and being able to portray traits of a godly woman. Yes, that’s true and good, but it doesn’t end there.

As a woman you have to incorporate certain things in you alongside your faith. You should be asking yourself if being a godly woman is the only necessary thing you need. There are some things that come with being a woman, things which are not expected from a man. Even though the world is modernized, there are some specific things which a woman is expected to do; such as cooking, cleaning, being caring, having a welcoming home, being able to run the household, being prepared to be a wife and a mother & readiness to be a submissive and supportive wife. These are the ‘little’ things you have to keep in mind as a woman. Alongside being godly, you should get a extra touch (oil) to complete and compliment you as a woman. That extra oil to your godliness will make you different and special in many ways. What makes you special?

Every man will be happy to find a godly wife, but will be over satisfied to find a wife with extra oil who covers all aspects of a godly woman and the duties of a wife. So, my dear sisters, don’t just be godly; have that extra oil for your lamp and be ready to use it.
