When two individuals are courting, it means that they are preparing themselves to eventually get married to one another, right? It’s not all too unusual that their focus is then shifted towards planning the wedding and preparing for marriage. However, correct me if I’m wrong, courting someone does not necessarily mean that the person you are courting is the one God has intended you to marry.
Why Are You With Him?
What is the reason that the two of you are courting? Is it because he is the answer to your prayer? Is it because he is everything you have been looking for in a man? Is it because he attends the same church as yours? Is it because he is single? Or is it just because the first time you saw him, you had butterflies in your tummy and your mind went “yes, he is the one”?
There are various reasons why people enter into a courtship, hoping and praying that it will lead to marriage. But what if God reveals to you that he is not the one for you? Will you stay with him and disobey God, or will you end the courtship and obey God? Will you ask God for another sign, a confirmation, a dream? Or will you simply disregard God’s dream as a nightmare so that you can continue your courtship and pray about it some more? Which voice are you really listening to? The voices of your friends, who tell you that the two of you are a match made in heaven? Or The Voice inside of you that tells you that this courtship is not God-given? Yes you love this man, he accepts you for who you are and all.. but can you really listen to and rely on God?
It Might Be Time To Let Go
Proverbs 19:21 makes us understand that many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’S purpose that prevails. If it does not work out as you had hoped, let him go. If it is not on God’s agenda, let him go. If God has plans to prosper you but not to harm you, let him go. For God will work everything together but only if you love Him (Romans 28:8). So then here my question is: to what extent do you love the Lord? Are you willing to leave a man you love behind to let God have His way? Do you speak to God more than the man you are in a courtship with, or do you try to go for an even 50/50?
Let’s not get lost with what I am trying to say here. The main message is as follows: there are many plans we make in this life, but not all of them are in the agenda of God. If God does not want it to happen, it will not happen. But if you choose to disobey Him and to sacrifice yourself to a person rather than sacrificing yourself to God, you will have to face the consequences.
God’s Plans Are Better Than Ours
Let us learn how to rely on God and trust Him. He is a faithful God. Some things in this life might seem painful and hard to go through, but with God all things are possible. If He really has plans to prosper us and not to harm us, and if He works all things together for those who love Him, then why are you doubtful?
My final few questions for you are as follows:
- Will you allow yourself to listen to the voice of God?
- Will you recognize God’s voice?
- Will you obey God if He speaks?
- Do you truly believe that the Holy Spirit will guide you in all truth?
Trust me, if you are truly filled in the Spirit, there is no truth that will be hidden from you. For everything will come to light and God will not fail you. He will speak to you and show you the way. Trust and obey Him and it shall be well.
